On the Calder mobile at Center Pompidou
Who would have guessed I'd be back so soon!
We took a red-eye to Paris. I don't think I'll ever do that again. It is SO exhausting. (Either that or I'm getting old) The girls I traveled with made a vlog (part1, part2), so you can follow that. I planned the tour highlights a few weeks ago for this trip, but (now I know) it would have been easier to follow a tour package that included a guide who knew the streets haha. We did a lot of walking, but I didn't take too many photos.
Every time I go to Paris, it's always in tiny bites. I don't really think much of the city, it's a little dirty, a little less friendly, and a little bit sketch in some areas, but I think I'm looking in all the wrong places.
Arts et Metiers Metro station. Steampunk like Jules Verne
Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, and Gianfranco Franchini. Center Pompidou! Oh I'd love to see the interior
Horizontal, Calder
An orchestra greets us in the metro hallway
Stained glass shadows
sponge bricks
I was really excited about seeing this place.
Arab World Institute, Architecture-studio & Jean Nouvel
The Arab World Institute is an organization founded to understand and research about the Arab world and its cultural and spiritual values. The most impressive thing here is that the building's glass wall is made out of photosensitive motor controlled apertures that automatically open and close to regulate the amount of light and heat entering the building from the sun. It is arranged in a geometric motif and creates interior spaces with filtered light similar to climate oriented strategies used in Islamic architecture.
Like your camera shutter
