07.04.2011 last day on blue mountain

We scrambled out of our house in the morning for check out and took a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the “city” There were lots of places to “hop off” for, but we could only pick one because we needed to catch our train back to Sydney.

Echo point was indicated in the travel brochure as the best lookout point at Blue Mountains. There was a four minute wait at the hop on hop off station so we booked it off the bus, snapped a few pictures, and then ran back on the bus again .

We decided to pick the Leura cascades. On the printed map, it looks like you could walk and see a waterfall that goes into a valley. I imagined it to look something like the waterfall from Pixar’s movie UP. Anyway, they were exactly as described, cascades, and not a waterfall so I was disappointed that the images on the map lied. Nonetheless we wandered and got lost along the pathways until we had to head back to hop back on the bus.

still feeling adventurous...

Our bus arrived! We were afraid we would miss it and then miss our train ride back to Sydney and then....

We got back to Sydney and I think our cab driver took the long way to get to our place at 237 Sussex. Anyway, funny story, we got to this really nice building called the vintage, and called the temple so they could open the door for us. Anyway we were suspicious about the location because there was no sign indicating this was where we were supposed to be, so on the phone, we affirmed, "the door is gold, right?" and the lady on the line replied, "Well, it is a glass door..." We nodded, because the door really was made of glass, and then continued to let us know that she was on her way to open the door for us. So we waited suspiciously for ten minutes until one of us finally realized that we were waiting at the wrong door! We were supposed to be at 273 Sussex. -__-

In the evening, I met up with a classmate. It was nice spending time catching up. Anyway, he took me out for crab racing. As silly as it sounds, it was fun! Bets are placed on hermit crabs and you are allowed to name the crab you bet on, therefore since there were only 18 crabs, only 18 bets were allowed to be made. Then, the crabs are placed in the middle of a circular platform and the first crab to make it to the outer ring wins. Because these are hermit crabs, they are super tiny and move quite slow. Not only that, but they can also decide to return into their shells at any given notice.

The Sydney Opera house at night, Scubar at night.

"Hear ye, Hear ye", he says, "Place your bets!"

Placing bets, naming our crab.

Happy fourth of July!

In the end, our crab did not win, but it did make it halfway towards the finish line…

see ya!
