01.09.2012 Deutches Guggenheim, Pawel Althamer: Almech

Jaime Hayon (not)
The Deutches Guggenheim had this exhibition titled Pawel Althamer: Almech. It is free on Mondays, so I tripped over there right after work. The idea seemed sort of fun, where the exhibition is always in an "in-progress" mode. The artist and his team worked alongside the exhibition in this sort of fishbowl. In this mini factory, he produces sculptural portraits of the staff and museum goers, because as we can see him, he can see us too. And these pieces become end products for the exhibition that you walk through, which is laid parallel to the fishbowl workspace. Unfortunately, the guy wasn't making any more portraits sculptures when I went (I think it would be nice to be a museum piece..) and on top of that, all I could think of was how everything just looked like what would happen if people were dropped into a melting pot of marshmallows...
